The firmware update shows up in the Windows Device Recovery Tool

Microsoft will soon release a firmware update for the Lumia 650 that will enable ”Double tap to wake”. The new firmware has already been spotted for some country variants of the phone, but currently only through the Windows Device Recovery tool (WDRT).

Firmware number 01078.00042.16352.50011 was recently rolled out to the Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL, and it also added the much-demanded feature and other improvements to the smartphones. According to the changelog for this firmware, the phones also get Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and stability fixes. The update improves the camera performance, including the auto-focus, video and image quality.

If you want to install the update right now and get Double tap to wake, you can install the WDRT, connect the phone to a PC and check if this firmware is available for your phone variant. Keep in mind that installing software via WDRT will return the device to its factory settings.
