Choose default apps on Windows 10

Sometimes, you may have more than one application to open certain file types on your PC. Windows 10 occasionally asks you to choose an app to open a file by bringing up a window ‘Open with …‘. But what if you want to change the default app and use a different than the pre-installed program? In this case, you can change the default app for a given file from the Settings menu. Let’s see how you can do it:

1. Open Settings → and go to System → Default apps.

2. Scroll to the bottom of the sub-menu to see three options: to choose default apps by file type, by protocol, or by app.

   

3. Click on the first option to change the default apps for different file types.

4. You will see a list with all file types supported in Windows 10. Click on the file type and select the default app from the right menu. Tap the + button if there are no applications set as default.

   

Now you have changed the default apps in Windows 10. Next time you click on a file, Windows 10 will automatically open the file with the new default app you’ve just chosen.
