AT&T finally upgrades the Lumia 640 XL to Windows 10 Mobile
Official Windows 10 update comes to the Lumia 640 XL
AT&T has finally approved the Windows 10 Mobile update for the Lumia 640 XL. Announced back in March 2016 as a free upgrade for many Lumia models, the Windows 10 Mobile update requires a carrier approval, so that’s why some users with carrier-branded devices had to wait months before getting the update.
Now, five months after AT&T upgraded the Lumia 640, the carrier is rolling out the update to the XL variant. Many users with this device on AT&T have already upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile by installing the Upgrade Advisor app and scanning for updates.
After a device jumps from Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile, a carrier approval is not required for future cumulative updates, so you could expect regular monthly updates directly from Microsoft.
