Acer is testing the waters with a very low-end Windows Phone
The company was rumored to announce a mid-range or even a high-end smartphone at MWC, but that didn’t happen. The first ACER-branded Windows Phone device since Windows Phone 7.5 is actually in the very bottom end.
With a 4-inch display (resolution of 800 x 480 pixels) and dual-core Snapdragon ticking over at 1.2 GHz with just 512 MB of RAM, the Liquid M220 will probably disappoint many, but at least the price is appropriate – €79.
There are, however, a few surprises here. Acer Liquid M220 a dual-SIM phone with decent cameras for such a low-end model. The front one is 2MP, while the sensor on the back is 5 MP and there is an LED flash, plus autofocus. Other specs are 4 GB of storage, microSD, and a 1300 mAh battery.
Acer is definitely testing the water with this Windows Phone which is going on sale in April in Europe, Middle East and Africa for €79. The company hopes to upgrade the Liquid M220 to Windows 10 later this year when we could also see some more attractive Acer phones.
